Still celebrated my 4th anniversary of racing in 2003. Despite a freshly pinned scaphoid fracture in my left hand and a torn ligment in my right knee, a second visit to the TT saw me finish 13th, with an average race speed of 100.6 mph and received a Bronze Replica trophy. In August, I competed at the Ulster GP for the first time. Following these achievements at the TT and Dundrod, I went on to win the Melville Open Formula 400 Championship, despite missing out on a round due to racing at the Ulster GP. I am now looking for a 600 to ride in 2004 on the road circuits and short circuits. So far best mate (mechanic Neil Black) who has just bought a new 03 R6 is going to let him use it if I can’t get one. Preparations are going well and Neils bike is undergoing the transformation to Production racer, with the Maxton shock ordered and other goodies ordered from Harris Performance. Sponsorship is very tight and until the FZR 400 is sold, good friend Brian Paterson has generously offered a loan to cover the cost of the race kit, required for the R6. This year I will be competing in the TT (Junior and Production 600 races), Dundrod 150 and Ulster GP as well as another couple of road races in Ireland (resources allowing). I aim to use the production bike on short circuits in the Supersport 600 class (despite the obvious power disadvantage to the tuned supersport bikes) and will be competing in Auto 66, Melville and NEMCRC championships. Even although this is a new class for me, I will be hoping for good finishes at the TT and Ulster. Against tuned Supersport bikes on the short circuits, in this first season on the 600 I am hoping for top 10 finishes. The Moto Cal sponsored MZ Mastiff will also be raced by me in the Supermoto events at East Fortune (Melville Club) and with the bike now fettled as the only MZ racing in Scotland and perhaps the UK, I am hoping for good results this year in the Championship. The Barking Spider team will be changing colour this year and the bike will be mainly black, so there may be two black bikes in the MAG sport team this year; Liam Gallagher's and mine's (woops... Neil's) R6. |
